Walter Fancourt’s mixed-media artworks reflect the broad range of his interests:  Ancient History, Ethnic Art, music and cartoons. A self-taught artist, his pieces are 3-dimensional wood reliefs, mounted onto self-made frames or free-standing sculptures, then painted with acrylic. The subjects, frames or bases of each piece are integral to the composition as a whole. The power of his works lie in his ability to combine extremely bright colors with dynamic subjects; the results are visually cohesive yet alienating, lending an air of mystery that asks the viewer to further contemplate each piece.

Walter’s pieces have been displayed at The Visual Art Exchange (Raleigh, NC), The Center for Creative Arts (Greensboro, NC), The At-Home Gallery for Folk Art (curated by Michael Edward Smith), and Artmongerz (Greensboro, NC).  He has also worked with the Cemela Foundation for Public Art.

After spending four decades in North Carolina, Walter recently relocated to the Hudson Valley in New York State.
